Clinical Studies on Cerebrovascular Accidents

Abstract
158 cases of cerebrovascular accidents admitted -to Ewha Womans University Hospital from January 1971 to February 1975 were studied clinically and following results were obtained.
1. Of 158 cases of cerebrovascular accidents, there were 6.8 cases (43%) of cerebral hemorrhage,
51 cases (32.2%) of cerebral thrombosis, 31 cases (19.8%) of subarachnoid hemorrhage: and : 8 cases
4.7% of cerebral embolism.
2 . The ratio of male to female was 1: 1.2.
3. 46 cases (29.1%) had the attacks in spring, 40 cases (25.3%) in Snnuner, 38 cases (24.1%) in Winter and 34 cases (21.5%) in Fall. Cerebrovasccular accidents were most common in the sixth decade and secondly.in the fifth decade.
4. Among the preceding cases 77.9% of cerebral hemorrhage, 74.5% cerebral thrombosis and 67.7 % of subarachnoid hemorrhage.
5. Major predisposing factors in cerebral hemorrhage was thonght to be physical exertion, whereas cerebral thrombosis and subarachnoid heinorrhage frequently occurred during sleeping.
6. Among the symptoms sand, signs at the onset of cerebrovascular accidents headache was present most comnionly in 53.6% of subarachnoid hemorrhage, in 50% of cerebral embolism, in 27. 8% of cerebral hemorrhage and in 50% of cerebral hemorrhage. .
7. Thee mortality rate was 13.1% in total, 23.5% in cerebral hemorrhage, 12.5% in cerebral embolism, 6.5% in subarachnoid hemorrhage and 3.9% in cerebral thrombosis.
8. One of the ominous features - influencing the prognosis was leukocytosis over 12.0001mm3
9. The rate of recurrence was 13.3% in. total, 7.4% in cerebral hemorrhage, -13.700 in cerebral thrombosis, 25.9% in subarachnoid hemorrhage and 12.5% in cerebral embolism.
